What is an atmospheric water generator?
An atmospheric water generator, often shortened to AWG, is an appliance that collects moisture from the air and turns it into filtered, treated water. Most household units use a cooling and condensation process similar in principle to the way droplets form on the outside of a cold glass.
Unlike a conventional water filter, an AWG does not need tap water as its source. It draws in surrounding air, condenses airborne moisture, and moves the collected water through treatment stages before storage and dispensing.

How does an atmospheric water generator work?

1. Air enters the unit

2. The air is cooled

5. Water is stored and dispensed

Why temperature and humidity matter
Warm air can generally hold more water vapor than cold air, while higher relative humidity means more moisture is available for condensation. An AWG will therefore typically produce more water in warm, humid conditions than in a cool or dry room.
Manufacturer ratings should be read together with their test conditions. A maximum rating measured under warm, humid conditions is not a promise of the same production in every home, season, or climate. An AWG may be worth considering when no-plumbing countertop operation is important and local indoor conditions are suitable. Its tradeoffs include electricity use, filter replacement, limited onboard storage, and production that varies with the weather and room environment.
A standard dehumidifier is not a substitute for an AWG designed to dispense treated water. Dehumidifiers are built to reduce room humidity, and their collection systems typically are not designed as drinking-water treatment and dispensing systems.
